History

The dictionary defines odyssey as "a long series of wanderings or adventures, especially when filled with notable experiences, hardships, etc".

Until 2007, three of Odyssey's members (Mike, Roger, and Greg) sang with Dennis Thompson, another member of the Men of Note Chorus and the Webb Chapel Church of Christ, in a quartet called One Voice. Formed in 1997, One Voice began as a gospel quartet and performed for many churches and civic organizations. Since most of the original members of One Voice were avid barbershoppers, it ws inevitable that the barbershop style would quickly influence their sound, singing a variety of music including comedy and patriotic.

From 1993 until 2000, Bob sang in a couple of quartets. One was Backstage, who played the School Board in Lewisville's 1996 production of The Music Man, something Bob says every Barbershopper should do at least once! Bob's other quartet was Impromptu, a 3-time Silver Medal quartet winner in the Southwestern District of the Barbershop Harmony Society. Impromptu performed at many civic events, church functions, Barbershop Harmony Society Chapters' Shows, and at the Morton H. Myerson Symphony Center. Impromptu ceased performing in 2001 when its bass, Earl Hagn, became ill with cancer.

Then, in 2007, One Voice tragically lost their baritone, Dennis.

In December of 2007, Greg, Mike, and Roger decided they wanted to participate in the Men of Note's Holiday Show as a quartet. So, Roger moved back to baritone and they asked another Chorus lead to fill out the foursome.

Then fate stepped in.

Due to a prior commitment, their new lead was unable to perform at the Saturday evening show. So, Greg asked Bob if he would be willing to fill in for the performance and he said yes.

Well, it turns out that they really liked what they heard. So, they decided to make the new foursome a permanent one and Odyssey was born!
